New Peavey Windsor Mods!
So I know many of you went out and bought the Peavey Windsor to have a budget backup amp or even it might be your main amp. I did the exact same thing. Well I began playing around with it to see what all it could do but there was something just not quite right to my ears, as far as the tone that I was looking for. So I figured, what the heck. I dove in head first to see what made this amp tick and see what could be improved on the circuit.
Did they cut some corners? Yeah. But hey for the price point you cant complain. So after looking at the circuit and seeing what I was going on, I figured I could do some tweaking to keep the gain up but lose the fizzy sound that I was getting from the amp. After a few tries and tinkering I have come up with a mod, or two
, that I can really open up the amp.
Here are some sound clips after the mod.
Recording Setup:
ESP Viper w/ PAF pickup in bridge -> Windsor (all Eq, resonance and presence controls at half) -> 2×12 Cabinet Loaded with WGS Veteran 30s
Sure SM57 Approx 3 feet away to capture the sound as if you were standing in the room
SM57 -> USB Interface -> Reaper (no effects or eqs) -> Lame MP3 Encoder
Pricing: $150
Let me know what you think of the clips. There’s plenty of room for voicing options and tweaks if you would like to customized to your sound.
Thanks,
-Steve
